Top 10 Human Resource Strategies in 2026

The workforce in 2026 may notcomprise only humans but also artificial intelligence (AI) and robots, or physical AI. Managing teams of AI and humans is going to be interesting, for sure. Here are the top 10 human resource strategies to consider in 2026.

1. Critical Thinking Skills
Despite the hype about AI we have been hearing, AI skills are not considered the highest priority. According to Korn Ferry’s survey of 230 talent specialists and 1,600 talent leaders worldwide, 73 percent of respondents believed critical thinking or problem-solving skills are the number one recruiting priority because they are needed to help navigate changes in the workplace, including the integration of AI, improving competitive edge, and building organizational resilience. Plus, those skills
take years to develop.
2. AI Upskilling and Reskilling
AI is here to stay, and employees need to learn it fast. According to the Cisco AI Readiness Index 2025, which surveyed 8,039 senior business leaders in charge of AI integration in organizations with 500 or more employees, only 30 percent of respondents reported that they had strong in-house AI talent. That’s a big room for improvement. AI upskilling and reskilling are sure to be on the to-do list of the human resources department in 2026.
3. AI Champions
According to Leapsome’s 2026 Workplace Trends report, 52 percent of 2,400 employees and HR leaders in the U.S. and Europe believed that executives’ expectations of AI-enabled productivity were unrealistic. Apparently, there is a mismatch between what the top echelons and employees expect regarding what AI can deliver. AI champions, or employees who are proficient in using AI, could help bridge those gaps in expectations by teaching other employees how AI can be applied in their companies and acting as liaisons between top management and employees.
4. AI-specific Roles
AI might play a role in eliminating some jobs, but italso creates new kinds of job roles. According to Microsoft’s Work Trend Index Annual Report in 2025, which collected data from 31,000 knowledge workers in 31 markets, 78% of respondents who were leaders reported that their companies were
considering hiring AI-specific roles, such as AI trainers, AI agent specialists, and AI strategists.
5. Manager Performance Evaluation
Trustworthy managers are the key to retaining employees. Another survey from Korn Ferry, called the 2025 Workplace Survey, whose data were collected from more than 15,000 professionals
worldwide, reported that 80% of respondents said they would stay at their workplace because they trusted their managers. To ensure that managers are fulfilling their roles appropriately, business leaders should frequently get feedback from employees about their immediate supervisors.
6. Continuous Learning
Workplace learning can no longer be a once-a-year or twice-a-year event in 2026. It must be ongoing. According to LinkedIn Learning’s Workplace Learning Report 2025, which surveyed 937 learning and development professionals, 91% of them believed that “continuous learning is more important than ever for career success.” Continuous learning can be offered as microlearning, where bite-sized lessons are provided to employees so they are not overwhelmed. Also, with AI technology, learning can be personalized to fit each employee’s current needs.
7. Financial Wellness Programs
With rising costs of living, many employees are struggling financially. ADP Inc. published a report in 2025 that collected data from 37,989 workers in 34 countries and found that 57% of respondents already struggled to pay their bills. That’s more than half of the workforce! To help employees, different types of assistance and tools may be provided through financial wellness programs, including financial coaching, financial management apps, emergency funds, discounts on health insurance for family members, and opportunities for overtime work.
8. Preventing Burnout
Employee burnout has become prevalent in the workplace, and its adverse effects can impact productivity and employee retention. When DHR Global surveyed 1,500 professionals in North America, Europe, and Asia, they found that 83% of respondents had already experienced some degree of burnout. Employers may help prevent burnout in different ways, including lightening the workload, consulting mental health professionals, and implementing a mandatory vacation policy.
9. AI Compliance Guidance
AI isn’t perfect. There have been complaints regarding discrimination against certain groups of people when using AI in employment decisions. Governments have been responding with new laws and regulations, such as the EU Artificial Intelligence Act in 2024, and the Texas Responsible Artificial Intelligence Governance Act in 2025. Both laws will be fully effective in 2026. Business leaders must update guidance for using AI in employment decisions, including hiring, promoting, and firing, and make sure that everyone adheres to the updated guidelines.
10. Pay Transparency
More and more countries have enacted new laws and regulations to make pay transparency, or disclosing salary ranges and how compensation is determined, compulsory. In June 2026, the EU Pay Transparency Directive will take effect. Whether business leaders like it or not, pay transparency is becoming the norm.
